CAMTS REACCREDITED
3/17/2008
AeroCare received full re-accreditation for the third time by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) on March 17, 2008.
CAMTS is a voluntary non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services.
CAMTS offers ground and air ambulance providers the ability to undergo a program evaluation process of their entire program to determine if they are in compliance with nationally accepted accreditation standards which focus on safety both in aviation and clinically as well as all other facets of the day to day operations.
Accreditation Standards are the criteria used to measure a program's level of quality. Substantial compliance must be demonstrated in order for a program to obtain accreditation.
Accreditation standards were originally developed in 1991 and have been revised every year to keep up with the changing facets of the aeromedical industry. CAMTS board member organizations include;
Aerospace Medical Association Air and Surface Transport Nurse Association Air Medical Physician Associations American Academy of Pediatrics American Association of Respiratory Care American College of Emergency Physicians Association of Air Medical Services National Air Transportation Association National Association of Air-Medical Communication Specialists National Association of EMS Physicians National Association of Neonatal Nurses National Association of State EMS Directors National Flight Paramedics Association
The acceditation process begins with a detailed review of the program's submitted program information form (PIF). After careful review of the program's PIF, a thorough site-survey is conducted by a CAMTS site-survey team in which information is verified and key people are interviewed. All information is then submitted to the CAMTS Board of Directors for review. Accreditation is then determined based on the board's vote on whether the program is "substantially compliant" with the accreditation standards.
AeroCare is one of a growing number of CAMTS accredited fixed-wing programs worldwide as the CAMTS accreditation becomes the gold standard for aeromedical services to strive for. "State departments and large insurance organizations have begun to insist on CAMTS accreditation program in order to become licensed and compete for specific business", states Joseph D. Cece, Program Director & CEO of AeroCare. "We are very pleased that we continue to set the bar at the highest level and have once again achieved this valuable accreditation," said Mr. Cece. "I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our entire staff in consistently ensuring compliance with CAMTS Standards. The CAMTS process has been very strenuous but has greatly improved our operations. We will continue to strive for excellence."
